Active duty officer found unconscious in Scott Air Force Base pool, dies
An active duty Air Force officer was found unconscious at the Scott AFB swimming pool Friday and was later pronounced dead at Memorial East Hospital in Shiloh, according to a release from the 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs office.
St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified officer as Capt. Nicholas J. Egich, 30, of Scott Air Force Base. Egich was pronounced dead in the hospital emergency room at 4:24 p.m., Dye said. His identity was withheld until his family could be notified.
The cause of death is under investigation, the release stated.
