Madison County prosecutor charged with DUI
A Madison County assistant state’s attorney has been suspended from his job and facing charges after an alleged drunken-driving incident on Friday.
Calvin Fuller, a prosecutor in the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office, was arrested Friday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after his car ran off the road and struck a power pole. His charges appeared in Madison County court records on Monday.
The arresting officer reported that Fuller smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet. Fuller declined a field sobriety test, so his driver’s license is under a summary suspension pending the outcome of the case.
The state’s attorney’s office confirmed Tuesday that Fuller is on paid administrative leave pending a full investigation of the matter. Fuller has been a prosecutor for Madison County for approximately 20 years.
The case is being transferred to a special prosecutor, and there will be a full review of all facts and evidence as a personnel matter, according to State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons. Fuller has posted $3,000 bail. Fuller could not immediately be reached for comment.
