Major Case Squad activated to investigate homicide in Alton

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated Saturday to investigate the killing of an Alton man whose body was found in the roadway.

The body of 41-year-old James E. Hubbard was found about 2 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of Oakwood Avenue in Alton. Police received a 911 call reporting that someone had been shot.

Hubbard suffered a gunshot and was dead when ambulance personnel arrived.

Lt. Kris Tharp, who is serving as deputy commander of the squad, said the case was being investigated as a homicide. He said more than 25 investigators were working on the case.

Tharp asked that anyone with information call the Alton Police Department aat 463-3505 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477. CrimeStoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest or arrests.
