Alton teen charged in murder of man found dead on street

Detectives working the case of a 41-year-old Alton man found shot dead in the street on Aug. 8 announced Friday a 17-year-old teen from Alton has been charged with first degree murder.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis announced Aryion E. Sanders, who lives in the 700 block of Oakwood Avenue in Alton, faces two first degree murder charges.

Police found James E. Hubbard, Jr. in the street in the same block Sanders lives in shortly after 2 a.m. Aug. 8 after a 911 caller reported someone had been shot. Hubbard suffered several gunshot wounds throughout his body and died before paramedics reached the scene.

The murder charges carry a prison term of 45 years to life. Sanders is in custody at the Madison County Jail, where his bond was set at $500,000.
