10 families flee suspicious East St. Louis apartment fire

A fire that displaced several families from their East St. Louis apartment building may have been intentionally set, authorities said.

The overnight blaze happened in the 900 block North 71st. Street. According to the American Red Cross, 10 families that lived in the building have been provided with temporary food and shelter.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. But investigators from the Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office have been called in because this was the third fire at the building in the last 24 hours.
