Two Madison residents were in custody and facing charges after allegedly attacking and robbing a truck driver who was sleeping at a truck stop in rural Granite City early Monday.
Darline Coleman, 44, faces a charge of armed robbery. Leroy Pryor, 49, faces a charge of aggravated robbery. They were being held Monday in the Madison County Jail on $300,000 and $200,000 bonds, respectively.
According to a Madison County Sheriff’s Department statement, deputies met with a truck driver who said he’d been robbed at 2:10 a.m. Monday at the truck stop in the 3200 block of Chain of Rocks Road. The driver told police he awoke to knocking on the door of his semi’s cab. When he opened the door, a man and a woman demanded money. The woman was armed with a knife and the man threatened to stab the driver.
The truck driver refused to hand over any money and told police that’s when the two attacked him. He eventually gave the duo an unknown amount of cash after suffering minor scratches and bruises from the attack. The duo fled in a maroon Ford minivan.
After an Illinois State Police emergency message regarding the incident was broadcast, a Madison Police officer noticed the van, stopped it and took Coleman and Pryor into custody around 4:30 a.m.
