Police nab suspect in Belleville bank robbery; could be linked to 2 previous cases
Belleville police officers apprehended a suspect following a robbery Wednesday at Regions Bank.
The robbery happened about noon at the bank at 655 Carlyle Ave. The suspect was apprehended after a brief vehicle pursuit, according to reports.
The suspect, wearing a striped shirt and yellow hat, handed a note to a teller but did not display a weapon, according to reports. The man left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Officers who responded noticed a vehicle that was similar to a vehicle seen in two recent bank robberies. The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee, but stopped after a short chase.
The two previous bank robberies happened Aug. 6 in Belleville and Shiloh. According to police, a suspect attempted to rob PNC Bank in Belleville on Green Mount Commons Drive just minutes before a robbery at Shiloh’s Commerce Bank, about four miles north.
