Madison County restaurant reopens after closing this summer for building repairs
A Glen Carbon restaurant that was closed in August due to structural damage has reopened.
The Denny’s restaurant at 27 Junction Drive reopened Thursday, Oct. 14, according to Brian Spongberg, a marketing manager for WKS Restaurant Group, which owns the franchise.
A post on the Glen Carbon Denny’s Facebook page the same day announced the opening as well.
The restaurant was closed Aug. 30 after heavy rains caused part of the roof to collapse.
At that time, the building was condemned and declared “dangerous and unsafe” by city officials.
Glen Carbon Fire Chief Jason Whitaker had stated that the damage “appeared to be a ongoing issue” and not exclusive to the Aug. 30 rainfall.
WKS Restaurant Group previously issued the following statement about the closure in Glen Carbon as well as a location at 4111 Timberlake Drive in Pontoon Beach:
“The health and safety of our employees and guests is paramount. We are working closely with the city of Glen Carbon and Pontoon Beach to make all necessary upgrades. While we take the time to make these improvements, we have committed to keeping all employees from the Glen Carbon and Pontoon Beach stores on staff at our other locations. We look forward to welcoming our employees and guests back to our stores soon.”
Spongberg said work is still being done at the Pontoon Beach location. It remains closed at this time. No other details were immediately available.
