City Council approves plans for a new restaurant at Belleville shopping center
Site plans to build a Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers restaurant in Belleville were unanimously approved by the Belleville City Council at its Dec. 20 meeting.
The planning commission voted to recommend approval by the council earlier this month.
At that time, Cliff Cross, director of Economic Development, Planning & Zoning, said some issues needed to be addressed prior to City Council review, including finalizing where the manholes would be connected to the storm sewer.
The item on the Dec. 20 council meeting agenda included that conditions of the director of wastewater were met. It also showed that the planning commission accepted the following with an 8-0 vote:
The current dimension of parking spaces at 9x18 feet
Extension of the apron, the approach or entrance to a parking lot
Future consideration of the dead end taken out to the next lot
Awnings added to the south side façade of the building
The restaurant’s building will be constructed at the Belleville Crossing Shopping Center east of Buffalo Wild Wings. The building will measure about 3,238 square feet and include a drive-thru and outdoor dining area on a 40,391-square-foot lot.
Kim Huynh, a representative from Freddy’s, stated in a recent email that the company hopes to have “a formal development timeline to share in the next few months.”
Wichita, Kansas-based Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers was co-founded in 2002 by brothers Bill and Randy Simon and friend and business partner Scott Redler, according to its website. The restaurant is named after the Simon brothers’ father, Freddy Simon, a World War II veteran, who passed away in 2020.
Other area locations include restaurants in Shiloh, Collinsville and Edwardsville.
