What’s up with Belleville’s two new burger restaurants? Here’s an update
Readers have been asking about the progress of two particular burger joints in Belleville.
I finally have some answers for each place. However, one shouldn’t be a surprise to those who frequent the east end of town.
A&W Restaurant
The much-anticipated A&W Restaurant in Belleville opened Monday, Oct. 24.
I noticed activity at the restaurant the evening before the opening while running an errand. So I asked owner Jim Sill about it.
Sill said they held a friends and family event on the eve of their opening as a final test run for the staff and that it went really well.
An Oct. 30 post on the A&W Belleville Facebook page thanked customers and staff for an “amazing first week.”
So if you haven’t been there yet, go grab a burger or a hot dog and some fries.
If those aren’t enough to entice you, here are three words that should do it: Root. Beer. Floats.
A&W is located at 648 Carlyle Ave. in Belleville. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers
As far as activity – or lack thereof – on the west end of town, I’ve had multiple readers ask what’s up at the site for Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers at Belleville Crossing.
Some of the readers commented that nothing was happening at the site and are concerned.
Well, the target opening date, originally planned for December, was pushed to February 2023, according to Kim Huynh, a member of Freddy’s public relations team.
Huynh informed me of the new target opening, writing in a recent email to the News-Democrat that the change was “due to supply chain issues causing a delay in shipment for some equipment.”
I will provide more intel as it becomes available. In the meantime, keep the questions coming.
