After 22 years in business, Mariachi’s in Belleville has closed for good.

A post added to the location’s Facebook page Tuesday stated, “It is with great sadness that we have decided to close our Belleville location permanently. We look forward to seeing all of you at our Maryville or [Millstadt] locations very soon! Thank you Belleville for 22 amazing years!”

A second post includes a photo of signage on the shuttered restaurant’s door with a similar message.

Mariachi’s opened at 400 S. Illinois St. in March 2003 under the ownership of Edgar Carrillo and Alejandro Martinez. The reason for the closing was not immediately known. Calls to the Belleville location were not answered.

Prior to housing the Mexican restaurant, 400 S. Illinois St. was home to Gatlin’s Restaurant, Townhouse Restaurant and Diamond Lil’s.

Over the years, other Mariachi’s locations opened.

Mariachi’s II opened at 525 Lincoln Highway, Fairview Heights, in spring 2004. The location closed in early 2009.

Another Mariachi’s location opened in the former Farmer’s Inn in Millstadt in summer 2009 and closed in June 2011. A second Millstadt restaurant at 717 W. Washington St. remains open.

The Maryville location at 2922 N. Center St. opened in November 2011.

Hours at the Millstadt and Maryville locations are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Call 618-476-6223 (Millstadt) or 618-288-6300 (Maryville) for more information.
