It’s official. Dutch Bros is coming to Illinois.

The Glen Carbon Village Board of Trustees approved in a 5-0 vote on Tuesday, Jan. 28 site plans for the development of the Oregon-based coffee shop. The 950-square-foot coffee shop will have a drive-thru and walk-up windows.

Dutch Bros is slated to open in late summer, according to a recent article from the St. Louis Business Journal.

“It is our first Illinois location with our eastern expansion,” Edin Coralic of Coralic Architecture in St. Louis, Missouri, told village trustees at the meeting.

He said they should have their general contractor picked up in the next 10 days or so.

“We’re looking forward to hitting the ground running,” Coralic said.

The architecture firm previously built multiple Dutch Bros locations in Oklahoma and Kansas.

The coffee shop will be constructed at Orchard Town Center at the southwest corner of the development. The site is behind an AT&T store at the corner of Center Grove Road and Troy Road.

Tim Lowe, senior vice president of development for The Staenberg Group, the developer for Orchard Town Center, attended the meeting and clarified for the board that the site is near the planned park area and the Madison County Transit Goshen Trail.

Erika Heil, Glen Carbon’s community development director, said in a memo to the village board that the project fits zoning for the site and recommended it be approved.

About Orchard Town Center

The development of Orchard Town Center was first announced in fall 2021. At that time, Menards was to be the anchor business for the 52-acre project. Construction was underway by March 2022.

Menards dropped out of the development following a disagreement with the developer on the closing timeline, according to a May 2022 article from the St. Louis Business Journal.

Meijer then replaced Menards as the anchor business in the development.

Since then, Orchard Town Center saw the openings of Chick-fil-A, Olive Garden, Plaza Tire Service and Club Car Wash. These businesses will soon be joined by Panda Express and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
