Smoothie King closes Fairview Heights location. Here’s what will replace it
A new beverage business is coming to Fairview Heights as another closes.
Following Monday’s permanent closing of Smoothie King at 6208 N. Illinois St. is the announcement that Dutch Bros Coffee will take its place.
In a call Monday to Smoothie King, an unidentified manager confirmed that it was the business’ last day. She said that they were closing because the business was at the end of its corporate contract.
The property and Smoothie King franchise owner, listed as Moneybar Inc., could not be immediately reached for comment or additional information.
The building’s interior and exterior will be remodeled to accommodate the drive-thru coffee shop, according to an announcement from the city’s land use and development department. The announcement also stated that construction would start in the coming weeks and continue through the summer.
The new Dutch Bros is the latest coffee shop coming to Fairview Heights.
A 7 Brew location, also a drive-thru only coffee shop, is slated for construction at 6308 N. Illinois St. after the lease with the current tenant expires. Other coffee shops include Starbucks on Lincoln Trail, Scooters Coffee on North Illinois Street, and Gloria Jean’s Coffees at St. Clair Square mall.
The new Dutch Bros location will be one of two Illinois locations. The other, officially confirmed in January, is being constructed at the Orchard Town Center development in Glen Carbon.
The nearest operating Dutch Bros location is at 982 Bryan Road in O’Fallon, Missouri.
About Dutch Bros Coffee
Dutch Bros Coffee was established by brothers Dane and Travis Boersma in 1992 as a pushcart in Grants Pass, Oregon. Four more carts were added soon after, and by 1994, the first drive-through location was established. There are now more than 1,000 locations across 18 states, according to the Dutch Bros website.
