Popular food truck once based in Belleville calls it quits after 7 years
A popular food truck and former restaurant announced over the weekend that, after seven years, it is officially closed.
The owners of Tony’s Tacos shared in a Facebook post that the “decision wasn’t easy,” but that they “decided to take a step back and focus on what matters most – our Family.”
The post also states that it is not yet certain whether the closure is temporary or permanent.
A message left for owner Tony Oseguera was not immediately returned.
Earlier this year, Tony’s Tacos was set to partner with Old Herald Brewery & Distillery and open on Collinsville’s East Clay Street. A trial run took place beginning with Cinco de Mayo weekend. Days later, Tony’s announced that the business would move from its Belleville location to a new, permanent location at Old Herald.
After remaining closed for a week to make final preparations for the May 20 grand opening, all plans were cancelled. Oseguera determined that last-minute changes to the lease agreement would not benefit his business and he walked away from the partnership.
Since then, Tony’s Tacos operated solely by food truck, having already vacated its Belleville location on Illinois Route 15. Oseguera said in May that he would continue looking for a brick-and-mortar location in the Collinsville area.
The food truck often operated at Buzz’s Firehouse Bar & Grill in Fairmont City. Tony’s Tacos also made regular appearances throughout Madison and St. Clair counties, including Cionko’s in Granite City, Flock in Alton, and Soulcial Kitchen in Swansea.
