The Fairview Heights restaurant formerly known as Tasty Bowl Stirfry & Sushi reopened Friday to welcome customers to Takumi All In One Eatery.

The restaurant closed at the beginning of the month for a remodel and a rebrand, owner Sean Lin said. Part of the remodel included removing the multiple automated stir-fry cookers and building out the area as the front kitchen. A back kitchen remains and will also be used.

Takumi is opening in phases as staff members continue training, but the goal was to reopen quickly, manager Feng Pan said.

The bar side of the restaurant is currently closed so staff can focus on the tables on the dining side, Pan said.

The establishment still has a liquor license, he said, but the cocktail menu is still in the works, and drinks are not available at this time.

The food menu, however, is more than enough reason to pay Takumi a visit.

The menu has something for everyone

The first thing to know is that Takumi offers an all-you-can-eat menu.

Takumi offers soups, salads, appetizers, and more than enough sushi and sashimi to satisfy all appetites. The menu consists mostly of Japanese fare but offers other Asian dishes, including Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese selections.

Hibachi, yakitori, dim sum, and desserts are also on offer. If you’re a daring diner who likes to try new things, items that stand out on the menu include the Baked Baby Octopus and Takoyaki (“tako” is Japanese for octopus) appetizers.

Everything on the menu is made to order, guaranteeing freshness, Pan said, adding that folks may have to wait a bit for their orders, but the flavors will be worth it.

Orders can be placed from tables with staff or via a tablet. Each table will have its own tablet where people can order throughout their visit. If you’re almost done with your appetizers or first round of sushi with plenty of room to spare, place the next order before you finish.

Some menu items are limited to dinner hours. Those include the sushi appetizers, some kitchen appetizers, sushi/sashimi, some dim sum and hibachi options, and certain sushi special rolls and deep-fried rolls.

Pan said the menu is in a testing phase to see what people like (or not) and will be adjusted and finalized in time.

Tasty Bowl Stir-Fry & Sushi opened last June and offered fresh, made-to-order sashimi and sushi, ramen, build-your-own stir-fry bowls, cooked in a row of automated stir-fry cookers.

Tasty Bowl closed May 1 due to “internal adjustment,” according to signage at the restaurant’s entrance.

Lin told the BND the business was switching to an all-you-can-eat sushi concept. The reason he gave was the challenge in competing with similar stir-fry and sushi concepts.
