Amazon Prime customers can now save money at Illinois gas stations. Here’s where to go

While gas prices are down considerably in Illinois compared to this time last year, there are several ways to further reduce your fuel costs.

Illinois residents with Amazon Prime memberships can now save 10 cents per gallon at about 600 gas stations across the state, as well as thousands of other locations in the U.S.

The offer is valid at bp and Amoco gas stations, as well as ampm locations. Illinois has about 50 Amoco gas stations and about 550 bp gas stations, an Amazon spokesperson wrote in a recent email to the News-Democrat. Amoco is a bp-owned brand, as is ampm.

The metro-east and St. Louis region has many bp and Amoco locations.

To activate the offer, people with Prime memberships can go online and link their Amazon account to earnify, an app for rewards on gas station and convenience store purchases. Users will only need to activate once to use the program.

Prime members can redeem the 10 cents off discount by putting in their phone number or using a linked payment method at the pump of a participating gas station, Amazon officials said in an Oct. 23 press release.

Amazon estimates the offer will save members an average of almost $70 per year on gas. Additionally, a discount program for people with electric vehicles is in the works for 2025.

Prime memberships cost $139 per year or $14.99 per month, with discounts available to students and qualifying government assistance recipients, and you may also be able to snag a 30-day free trial.

More ways to save on gas in Illinois

Along with Amazon’s new offer, Illinois residents can take advantage of more avenues to save on gas. One popular option is GasBuddy, an app where you can locate the cheapest gas near you and earn cash back on purchases.

The app Upside also has a gas station locator by price and offers cash back on gas station, restaurant and grocery purchases.

Members of auto club AAA can join a fuel rewards program to save money at participating Shell gas stations.

People with memberships at Sam’s and Costco can also save on gas at members-only stations.

Residents located near Metro-Link or MetroBus stations and people for whom biking or walking is an accessible option can also cut down on gas costs.
