2 p.m.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker was expected to announce Tuesday that he would extend a statewide stay-at-home order until April 30, The Chicago Tribune reported ahead of the governor’s daily news conference.
Public and private schools would remain closed through the end of April as part of the extended order.
Pritzker issued a stay-at-home order on March 20, ordering all Illinoisans, except essential workers, to shelter in place at their homes and to make only necessary trips. The first order is in effect until April 7.
“My bedrock has been to rely upon science,” Pritzker said of the original order. “To avoid the loss of potentially tens of thousands of lives, we must enact an immediate stay-at-home order for the state of Illinois.”
