Coronavirus cases in southwest Illinois increase as Madison County reports a death

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in southwestern Illinois has reached 668, while the number of deaths has increased to 34.

Madison County reported an eighth coronavirus death on Sunday, but did not release the patient’s age, gender or underlying conditions.

The previous reported deaths were in St. Clair County, 18; Monroe County, seven; and Madison County, now with eight.

Statewide, 1,290 people with COVID-19 have died. A total of 30,357 cases had been reported as of Sunday afternoon by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

287 positives, 18 deaths, 71 hospitalized not in the intensive care unit, five on ventilators, 1,233 tests administered, 67 tests pending
