The latest coronavirus deaths in southwestern Illinois include four more in St. Clair
There were a total of 1,066 coronavirus cases in the metro-east as of Tuesday, an increase from 1,041 on Monday.
In St. Clair County, officials announced four new deaths, bringing the county’s total to 27 since the pandemic started. The patients were a male in his 60s with underlying conditions, a male in his 80s with underlying conditions, another male in his 80s with underlying conditions and a female in her 80s and it is unknown if she had underlying conditions.
Also Tuesday, Macoupin County announced it had its first outbreak at an assisted care facility, Heritage Health in Staunton. As of Saturday, all employees and residents at the facility were tested, with two employees and two residents testing positive.
During the state’s daily COVID-19 news conference Tuesday, officials announced 2,219 new cases and 144 additional deaths. The announcement brings the statewide total of positive coronavirus cases to 48,102, and the total number of deaths to 2,125.
