Southwestern Illinois sees 5 more coronavirus deaths, as total cases nears 1,200
Overall, there were a total of 1,195 coronavirus cases in the metro-east as of Friday afternoon, an increase from 1,166 on Thursday.
St. Clair County reported two new deaths Friday: Two females in their 80s with underlying health conditions. Madison County also reported one death — a woman in her 70s — while Monroe County reported one death from Garden Place. Randolph County, meanwhile, reported its second death.
Overall, as of this afternoon, the metro-east saw 29 new cases and five new deaths Friday.
During the state’s daily COVID-19 news conference Friday, officials announced 3,137 new cases and 105 additional deaths. The announcement brings the statewide total of positive coronavirus cases to 55,055, and the total number of deaths to 2,456.
