Resident from Belleville’s Esquiline long-term care center tests positive for COVID-19
A resident of the Dammert Care Center at the Esquiline in Belleville has been diagnosed with COVID-19, which is caused by the coronavirus, the facility announced Friday.
The resident has been in isolation since the coronavirus test was administered June 3, according to the Esquiline’s President Jeff Baker.
The Esquiline offers independent, assisted living and skilled nursing care at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. The Dammert Care Center is a skilled nursing facility, according to the Esquiline’s website.
“We are taking every step as recommended by authorities to contain the spread,” Baker stated in a news release issued Friday evening. “We want to make residents, their families, our dedicated staff, and our community aware of this situation and reassure everyone that we are on top of the situation.”
The resident was not included in either the St. Clair County Health Department’s daily report Friday or the Illinois Department of Public Health’s data on long-term care facilities because neither reports locations with one diagnosis.
The health department states daily in 3:30 p.m. county briefings on the coronavirus that two or more residents or staff with a positive test result or COVID-19-like symptoms is required to be considered an outbreak and be included in its report.
