COVID-19 hospitalizations in St. Clair County hit lowest point since April

Hospitalizations from coronavirus fell to a low in St. Clair County Thursday as county officials reported only 39 people are currently hospitalized due to the virus.

The low amount of hospitalizations is the lowest its been since the county started tracking the data on COVID-19 hospitalizations. This week the amount has been steadily falling.

“This doesn’t mean we can let our guard down,” said Bryan Whitaker, Assistant St. Clair County EMA director. “The fights not over yet.”

County Board Chairman Mark Kern said St. Clair County said the numbers are looking good but echoed Whitaker’s comments.

St. Clair County also reported 18 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and one additional virus-related death, a 40-year-old man with unknown health conditions.

In Madison County, 15 new cases were reported.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Health department reported 593 new cases of the virus had been confirmed with 55 additional deaths.

Illinois has seen a total of 6,537 deaths during the pandemic, officials reported. A total of 134,778 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, while more than 1 million people have been tested for COVID-19.
