Metro-east records 66 new cases of coronavirus, one new virus-related death
A total of 66 new COVID-19 cases and one new death were announced in the southwestern Illinois region Thursday.
St. Clair County officials reported one new death from COVID-19 Thursday, a man in his 80s with underlying health conditions. The county now has recorded 140 coronavirus-related deaths.
St. Clair County also reported 41 new cases, while Madison County announced 19 new cases but no new deaths.
Six cases were reported throughout several other counties in Southwestern Illinois.
Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health on Thursday reported 868 new cases of the virus had been confirmed with 18 additional deaths.
Illinois has seen a total of 7,005 deaths during the pandemic as of Thursday, officials reported. A total of 145,750 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, while more than 1.6 million people have been tested for COVID-19.
