Recreation center in Highland closes after individual tests positive for coronavirus

Highland officials announced the immediate closing of the Korte Recreation Center Monday due to a confirmed COVID-19 case.

The City of Highland announced in a Facebook post the recreation center will be closed until Friday.

The center will be sterilized. The city recommended anyone who visited the center from July 6 to July 10 to self-monitor for symptoms and take proper precautions.

Parks and Recreation Director Mark Rosen said the city won’t be commenting on whether the COVID-19 positive individual was an employee or a visitor. He said the areas of the center the individual was in was “limited,” however.

He added that all employees at the faculty are scheduled to take a COVID-19 test before returning to work.

The center is located at 1 Nagel Drive in Highland.

As of Sunday, Madison County had reported a total of 24 COVID-19 cases in Highland’s zip code, the 11th highest zip code in the county. Roughly 15,800 people live in Highland’s 62249 zip code.
