Southwestern Illinois counties report second day in a row of triple-digit COVID-19 cases
Health officials reported a total of 106 new COVID-19 cases throughout the metro-east Tuesday, marking the second day in a row of triple-digit cases.
St. Clair and Madison counties again accounted for the majority of new COVID-19 cases, with a combined total of 90.
St. Clair County reported 52 new cases, two less than what it reported Monday, while Madison County reported 38, seven less than Monday’s record total.
St. Clair County also reported two deaths Tuesday, including a woman in her 80s with underlying health conditions and a man in his 60s with no known underlying health conditions.
In total, St. Clair County has reported 2,654 cases of coronavirus and 147 deaths, leading the metro-east in both statistics. Currently, 30 individuals remain hospitalized and one person is on a ventilator in St. Clair County.
Madison County has 1,275 cases and 71 deaths. Tuesday’s positivity rate in Madison County was 6.8% and the county’s rolling seven-day positivity average is 6.02%, according to the health department. Positivity rates refer to the percentage of total tests that are positive .
Several other counties throughout the metro-east reported new cases as well Tuesday. In Randolph County, eight new cases of COVID-19 were reported, and in Monroe County, six new cases were reported.
The state announced 707 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Tuesday and 25 additional virus-related deaths, up from Monday’s reported total of six deaths.
Illinois has seen a total of 7,218 deaths during the pandemic as of Sunday, officials reported. A total of 155,506 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, while more than 1.9 million people have been tested for COVID-19.

The St. Clair County Health Department announces the following COVID-19 community testing sites:
- Dupo: 10 a.m. to noon at 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, at Dupo Park, 800 Bluffview Elementary Lane, Dupo.
- Fairview Heights: 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Moody Park, 525 S. Ruby Lane, Fairview Heights.
No appointment necessary, masks required.

COVID-19 restrictions cancel date at Belle-Clair
Due to local restrictions on mass gatherings from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the DIRTcar Summer Nationals and Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals race originally scheduled for Sunday, July 26, at Belle-Clair Speedway has been canceled.
Belle-Clair has not hosted any racing events yet this season and does not foresee being able to open by July 26. However, the tours aim to return to the track in 2021.
