Every zip code in St. Clair County has reported coronavirus cases as of Thursday
St. Clair County’s case total continued to drop on Thursday, two days after new restrictions were put into place regionally to stunt the spread of COVID-19, as the last zip code to remain case free reported its first cases.
The county’s daily case count dropped from 57 on Wednesday to 49 on Thursday. However, the daily positivity rate rose from 6.8% on Wednesday to 8.1% on Thursday. The daily positivity rate is the percentage of positives from a day’s worth of coronavirus tests.
New restrictions for the metro-east went into effect at 11 p.m. Tuesday. The added restrictions for bars, restaurants, social gatherings and more is an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the region.
Region 4, which includes St. Clair County, was given until Wednesday, Sept. 2, to get its seven-day rolling positivity rate down after new restrictions were implemented last week by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The county saw no double-digit increase in cases in any of its zip codes Thursday, with the highest increase stemming from the 62289 (Summerfield) zip code. Six new cases were reported in the zip code, marking the first cases to be reported in the zip code since the pandemic began.
Every zip code in St. Clair County now has a reported at least one case of COVID-19, according to county officials.
The region’s positivity rate dropped to 9.3% Thursday— down from 9.6% on Wednesday. The Illinois Department of Public Health has provided the rate since June 26 at dph.illinois.gov/regionmetrics and defines the region as St. Clair, Madison, Randolph, Clinton, Monroe, Bond and Washington counties.
Information on the website is delayed by three days, so Sunday, Aug. 30, is the latest date information was available for Thursday.
As of Thursday afternoon, 30% of the region’s hospital beds and 47% of the ICU beds are available, according to state health officials. Regionally, there are 88 individuals on hospitals and eight patients on ventilators.
Elsewhere in the metro-east, Madison County reported 53 new cases of COVID-19, Randolph County reported 20, Monroe County reported four and Clinton County reported 20. As of 5:30 p.m., Region 4 had reported 146 new cases and Bond county had not reported daily COVID-19 data.
Outside of Region 4, nearby Perry County reported two new cases.

Southwestern Illinois COVID-19 statistics
ZIP-code-level numbers below are provided by the state each afternoon at dph.illinois.gov/covid19/covid19-statistics. Madison and Macoupin counties compile their own statistics by ZIP code later in the day, so the numbers may differ from what appears on the Illinois Department of Public Health’s website. The Belleville News-Democrat reports the information county health departments provide.
ZIP codes with fewer than five cases of the virus are not reported by health officials. The number in parentheses after each ZIP code below reflects the change from the previous day’s cumulative total. A decrease reflects a correction.
All other information comes from local health departments. The “recoveries” figure refers to the number of people who completed the required isolation period in most counties:
