Police have not identified any suspects at this point. Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Mark Doiron said police need anyone with information about the whereabouts of Pannel and Beiser prior to the shooting that occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday to call Illinois state Police Special Agent Jamie Brunnworth at 618-346-3759 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-8477.
State police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
Doiron said he could not confirm whether drugs were involved in the fatal shootings. He said toxicology results are pending. He also said it is not known whether the unborn baby was Pannel’s or whether the couple were in a relationship.
“They were well-known acquaintances. But, I don’t know if they classified themselves as boyfriend and girlfriend,” Doiron said. Asked why Beiser and Pannel were in Washington Park, Doiron said police are still investigating.
Beiser’s vehicle had temporary Missouri tags.
Doiron said when officers arrived on the scene they found the vehicle, which had run off the road and crashed. Pannel was the driver of the vehicle and Beiser was a passenger, Doiron said.
