O’Fallon man charged with murder of Caseyville man

A suspect has been charged in the shooting death of a 26-year-old Caseyville man June 3 at 51st Street and Roosevelt in Washington Park,

Eazs A. Harper, of O’Fallon, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. The arrest warrant shows Harper’s address as 207 Estate Drive, Apt. D.

Kyle Keith Savant was shot and killed in a June 3 shooting, which also left a 29-year-old critically injured. The identity of the second victim has not be released.

Savant was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. He had been shot in the chest.

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Mark Doiron said an arrest warrant detailing the charges against Harper was issued June 13.

The case was investigated by the Washington Park Police Department and Illinois State Police.

Washington Park Police Chief Allen Bonds is happy that police were able to get the person whom they believe is responsible for the killing Savant and have him charged.

“I appreciate the help provided by all parties involved in this case to get some closure for the family,” Bonds said.

Harper was already in the Madison County jail on unrelated drug charges stemming from an arrest in Pontoon Beach, Doiron said.

“We developed him as a suspect through our investigation,” Doiron said. “Things started off really slow, but we were able to gather information that led us to the suspect.”

It’s unclear whether Savant and Harper knew each other. The investigation continues, according to Doiron.
