A Collinsville man was charged Thursday with shooting a gas station employee during an armed robbery in Collinsville.

Patrick B. Wilson, 25, who was arrested Wednesday morning, was charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. Police say Wilson entered the Exxon Mobil at 810 South Morrison Drive around 10:30 p.m on Tuesday and shot a 36-year-old man working in the store.

Wilson robbed the business and fled on foot, according to a press release from Collinsville police.

Wilson was also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. He is being held at the Madison County Jail, and his bail is set at $300,000.

The employee was taken to a St. Louis area hospital and was in critical but stable condition Wednesday, according to the release.
