Gas station employee shot during armed robbery; police arrest suspect
Collinsville police arrested a 25-year-old man Wednesday morning after they say he shot an Exxon Gas Station employee late Tuesday night during an armed robbery at the store.
The suspect reportedly entered the gas station, at 810 South Morrison Drive, around 10:30 p.m. He announced he was there to rob the business and then shot a 36-year-old man working at the store, according to a release from Maj. Brett Boerm.
The suspect was able to flee on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, Boerm wrote. Police searched the area with K9 officers but were unable to find the man.
The employee was conscious when he was taken to a St. Louis area hospital. He was in critical but stable condition Wednesday afternoon, Boerm wrote in an update.
Evidence collected by several agencies lead to the arrest of the suspect around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
As of early Wednesday afternoon, police had not released his identity.
