A Facebook user identified a shoplifting suspect accused of throwing two bottles of stolen liquor at Schnucks employees Tuesday in Godfrey, police say.

The user called police and told them the woman pictured was 39-year-old Carlette Whitfield, of Alton, a Madison County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post said.

Employees told police they approached the shoplifter in the parking lot around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after they say she stole four bottles of liquor from the store. They said she then threw two of those bottles at them, dropped the other two and fled the area.

Whitfield was arrested just two days after in Alton in an unrelated case.

She was taken to the Madison County Jail and charged on Monday with retail theft in the Schnuck’s incident.

Whitfield's bail was set at $30,000.

“We want to thank those of you who messaged and/or called in tips to the Sheriff's Office on this matter,” Capt. T. Mike Dixon wrote in the updated Facebook post.
