Funeral planned for fallen police officer in Illinois

The funeral for a fallen police officer will be open to the public, according to the Rockford Police Department.

Officer Jaimie Cox was killed while on duty Sunday at a traffic stop. Police reported that the officer died of blunt-force trauma from being hit by a truck, while the truck’s driver apparently died of gunshot wounds fired by Cox, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Visitation for the officer will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in Rockford; the police funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. A procession will follow the service, and Rockford police welcome residents to line the route that they posted on the Rockford Police Department Facebook page.

Rockford Police say donations may be made to the Jaimie Cox Memorial Fund at Alpine Bank branch locations. They warn other donation drives may not be legitimate.
