Man charged in June shooting death taken into custody on new charges
An East St. Louis man charged with shooting a man outside a liquor store was taken into custody seven months after charges were filed.
Deon Turner, 30, was taken into police custody and booked Wednesday evening into the St. Clair County Jail, according to online court records. Turner was booked on six new charges filed Thursday — aggravated discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, domestic battery, causing a child to be endangered, battery and criminal damage to property.
In June, Turner was charged with the shooting death of 30-year-old Deveion Edwards in East St. Louis and with being a felon in possession of a weapon. He was not arrested on the murder charge until Wednesday.
Police say Turner approached and shot Edwards in Edwards’ car outside Discount Liquor Store, 2201 State St. at about 8 p.m. June 3. Police responded to the liquor store after receiving reports of shots fired and a man down.
Turner was being held Thursday in the St. Clair County Jail on $1 million bail.
