Belleville man arrested in connection with Sherwood Forest burglaries
Police arrested a 19-year-old Belleville man in connection with a string of burglaries earlier this week, though police continued their search for a second suspect, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.
Several tips from area residents led Belleville police on Wednesday to the residence of Payton M. Dorris of the 7900 block of West Washington. Police took Dorris into custody and the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office later charged him with burglary and theft.
The burglaries on Sherwood Forest off of 82nd Street were reported on Aug. 20. Dorris was also charged with a burglary in Fairview Heights.
Police continued searching for a man wearing an orange shirt and black pants, who they hadn’t identified as of Friday afternoon. Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s department at 618-825-5204.
Judge Julie Katz set Dorris’ bond at $100,000. He remained in the St. Clair County Jail as of Friday.
