The annual Santa Parade at 10 a.m. Friday in Belleville will have a different route this year because construction has begun on a $3.3 million project to improve roads and sewers on West Main Street.

Traditionally, the parade has started at 17th and West Main streets. This year, the parade will begin at Third and West Main streets and ends at Oak and East Main streets.

Belleville has started the “streetscape” improvements for West Main Street from Sixth to 17th streets. In the first phase, storm water sewers will be installed from Sixth Street to 12th Street so the storm water runoff will not be combined with sanitary sewer lines. Parts of West Main Street will be ripped out because this storm water line will run down the middle of the street.

This sewer work is scheduled to be finished in the spring. City officials advise commuters to avoid West Main Street from Sixth to 17th streets but said all businesses will remain open during the construction and customers will have access to them.
