On-demand rides coming to Fairmont City as transit district rolls out reorganization

An on-demand transport service launched late last year as part of a project to revitalize St. Clair County’s transit district is being expanded to Fairmont City.

Beginning May 1, the SCCTD Flyer on-demand buses will run in Fairmont City.

“We are streamlining our services to meet the changing needs of our customer base,” said Herb Simmons, Chair of the St. Clair County Transit District Board of Trustees. “The fixed-route MetroBus line in Fairmont City has historically experienced low ridership numbers, and we feel the SCCTD Flyer will be a better fit for this area.”

SCCTD’s Flyer service costs $3 per one-way trip and can take riders to the metro-east’s four MetroLink station from their home and vice versa.

The service is available from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and be scheduled by calling 618-800-6684 or by downloading the service’s TransLoc app.
