Illinois State Police investigate death of Madison County man driving dirt bike

An East Alton man was killed when the off-road motorcycle he was driving early Friday morning collided with a car.

According to a preliminary investigation by Illinois State Police, Samuel J. Sparks, 31, was driving a dirt bike south on Fosterburg Road at Serenity Drive. A 2017 Nissan Frontier driven by Mark A. Randle, 53, from Bethalto was traveling north on Fosterburg Road in the same area.

Randle began turning left onto Serenity Drive when the dirt bike driven by Sparks struck the passenger side of his vehicle, a press release said.

Sparks was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The motorcycle had no lights or registration, according to ISP.
