Lebanon man identified as victim of fatal crash on Interstate 70 in Effingham County

A Lebanon man has died following a crash Saturday on Interstate 70 in Effingham County.

Luis D. Baerga-Plumey, 66, was killed when the eastbound 2015 Chevrolet Malibu he was driving crossed the center median and entered the westbound lanes of traffic, striking a 2019 Ford F-150 truck head on, a news release from Illinois State Police District 12 stated. He was pronounced dead on scene by the Effingham County coroner.

Authorities did not know why Baerga-Plumey’s car crossed the median, the release stated.

According to the release, the crash occurred at 11:51 a.m. around milepost 102. Baerga-Plumey’s passengers and the occupants of the other car were transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Those include:

  • Lisa Baerga-Plumey, a 55-year-old woman from Lebanon.

  • A 4-year-old girl from Lebanon.

  • Joseph T. Lansky, a 27-year-old man from Mt. Clemens, Michigan.

  • Danielle A. Lansky, a 28-year-old woman from Mt. Clemens.
  • A 3-year-old boy from Mt. Clemens.
  • An 11-month-old boy from Mt. Clemens.

Police said no further information would be released as of Sunday morning.
