Coroner releases name of 1-year-old boy who apparently drowned in Cahokia pool

A police investigation continues into the apparent drowning of a 1-year-old boy in Cahokia Friday evening, and on Saturday the child’s name was released.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the child as Kayden A. Sharp of Centreville.

Kayden was pronounced at the scene on Goodman Street in Cahokia at 6:15 p.m.

Asked Saturday about the cause of death, Dye said, “It appears to be drowning, but the incident is still under investigation by the Cahokia Police Department.”

Dye said his office is still waiting for toxicology reports to determine the cause of death.

Cahokia Police Lt. Ben Callahan said police were called to Goodman at 4:09 p.m.

When officers arrived, they located a boy who appeared to be a drowning victim.

Cahokia Police Capt. Dennis Plew said there is a swimming pool at the home.

“MedStar was called. They tried to save his life but were unsuccessful,” Callahan said.
