East St. Louis man killed in hit-and-run in Sauget

An East St. Louis resident was struck and killed by a passenger car in Sauget Wednesday night.

Thomas Emanuel Williams, 59, of the 3100 block of Trendley Avenue, in East St. Louis was identified by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. Dye said Williams was pronounced at the scene at 10:43 p.m.

Sauget Police Chief James Jones said the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed Williams did not stop.

“We are currently trying to locate the vehicle and identify the driver of the vehicle. We want anyone who may have seen anything to call the Sauget Police Department,” Jones said.

Jones said Williams was walking north on Falling Springs Road near Monsanto Avenue.

“He was struck by a silver passenger vehicle that left the scene traveling south towards Cahokia,” Jones said.

Illinois State Police accident reconstruction unit was called to process the scene.

Anyone with information regarding this hit-and-run incident is urged to call the Sauget Police Department at 618-337-5267.
