Police investigating Saturday night car shooting near Washington Park that injured two
Two people were shot, one multiple times, Saturday night somewhere between Interstate 64 East and the Fairview Heights Metro Link station, police said.
Washington Park Police Chief Allen Bonds said a male and female were traveling east on I-64 and exited at Kingshighway before driving toward St. Clair Avenue.
The female driver told police she was going to make a left turn when another vehicle pulled up next to her and someone started shooting at her vehicle, Bonds said.
The male passenger then hopped on top of the female to protect her and sustained multiple bullet wounds, Bonds added. He is currently in a St. Louis hospital in critical but stable condition.
The female victim was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries and later released, police said.
Bonds said the shooter was in a black SUV, but that police are still in the early stages of the investigation. Police were first notified of the shooting at 10:27 p.m., he said.
