The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced a closure of westbound Interstate 270 between Interstate 55/70 and Interstate 255 this weekend.

There will not be any access to westbound I-270 from I-55/70, Illinois 159 or Illinois 157 starting at 6 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday. A detour will be marked using I-55/70 west to I-255 north.

IDOT encourages local motorists to select the best alternate route for their specific trip.

The lane closures are necessary to allow crews to perform pavement repairs along the corridor in advance of the winter season, according to IDOT.

Drivers can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when able to, use of alternate routes.

IDOT urges drivers to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
