Madison County coroner identifies woman who died in Alton house fire

The Madison County Coroner identified the woman who died in a house fire Thursday.

An autopsy indicates that LaDon Mick, 63, of Alton, likely died in her bedroom from smoke inhalation, but a final cause of death won’t be determined until routine toxicology tests are returned, Coroner Steve Nonn said.

Alton Fire Chief Jesse Jemison said the the fire in the 1600 block of Nolte Place was first reported at about 5:50 a.m. Thursday. The house was “fully engulfed” in flame with firefighters arrived, but was under control by about 6:30 a.m.

It was then that first responders came discovered Mick’s body at the foot of her bed with her pit bull, which also died in the fire.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating, Jemison said.
