Snow and sleet totals ranging from 5 to 11 inches have been reported in the metro-east for the two-day winter storm this week.

Freezing rain, sleet and snow fell on Wednesday morning and then late Wednesday, and most of the day on Thursday, it was all snow.

Ben Herzog, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in St. Louis, on Friday said Lambert St. Louis International Airport had 6.7 inches of sleet and snow.

Herzog said freezing rain amounts are measured in a different category and there was just a glazing at the airport.

As far as a verdict on the weather service’s prediction for snow and sleet totals in the metro-east, Herzog called it “pretty close.”

The weather service noted that the 6.7 inches of snow at the St. Louis airport was the first time St. Louis has had a snowfall of 6 or more inches in the month of February since Feb. 24-25, 1993.

“That 29-year stretch has finally ended,” the agency said in a Facebook post.
