St. Clair County coroner releases identity of pedestrian killed on Interstate 55
A pedestrian was killed early Monday morning in a single vehicle crash in St. Clair County.
Illinois State Police responded to a single-car crash involving a pedestrian in the southbound lane of Interstate 55 near milepost 4.5 in Fairmont City, said Trooper Joshua Robinson, Public Information Officer for the Illinois State Police District 11.
Billy Herndon, 36, of the 100 block of Messa Drive in Collinsville, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 3 p.m., St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. confirmed.
The driver and passengers of the vehicle were transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The two right lanes on I-55 were closed during the crash investigation. All traffic lanes reopened at approximately 5:50 a.m.
The crash investigation remains active, Robinson said.
