Southern Illinois man killed in single-car crash on I-255

A 47-year-old man from Ava lost his life in a single-car crash on Interstate-255 Wednesday night.
St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Jason Mayes. Dye said Mayes was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:48 p.m. Illinois State Police reported the crash occurred at about 7:35 p.m.
Illinois State Police said Mayes was traveling north on Interstate 255 at mile marker 20 when, for an unknown reason, his vehicle went of the roadway to the right, struck a utility pole and overturned.
