More roadwork on Illinois 15 in St. Clair County may cause traffic delays, lane restrictions

A roadwork project to mill and resurface 5.7 miles of Illinois 13 and Illinois 15 from just east of Illinois 159 in Belleville to Rogers Drive in Freeburg is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

Illinois Department of Transportation District 8 Operations Engineer Joseph Monroe said, as of Thursday afternoon, the project was about 35% complete. He also added this project is separate from the recently-finished roadwork to repair a highway “dip” due to mine subsidence in the area.

“This is just general roadway improvement,” he said.

Monroe was unsure about details of any lane restrictions and/or the closing of any lanes. Right now, some lanes have been reduced on the lower part of the construction area, starting in Freeburg and continuing north to Belleville.

“It’s going to vary based upon the work item on whether there’s lane restrictions,” he said.

Kilian Corp. of Mascoutah is handling the project.

Meanwhile, crews have finished work on the other project that included fixing a “dip” in the highway caused by mine subsidence near the Green Mount Road intersection and stretched just east of the intersection of Illinois 159 in Belleville to Freeburg.

That work originally was not expected to be completed until August.
