Deadline approaching to apply for aid for southwestern IL flooding damage from July
The deadline is approaching to apply for federal disaster assistance grants to help St. Clair County residents cover property damage or temporary housing costs resulting from July’s severe flooding.
Rainfall of up to 12 inches caused severe flash flooding July 25-28 in southwestern Illinois and St. Louis. St. Clair County homeowners and renters have until Thursday to apply for aid through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
So far, flood victims in St. Clair County have received more than $25.2 million in federal help, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced this week.
You can apply online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA mobile app.
You can also apply in person and get help with the application at the Disaster Recovery Center that FEMA set up in East St. Louis:
- 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the Clyde Jordan Senior Citizen Center, 6755 State St., East St. Louis
No appointment is necessary to visit the Disaster Recovery Center. It will permanently close at 6 p.m. Dec. 22.
Here is the information you will need when you apply:
- Phone number where you can be contacted
- Address at the time of the flooding
- Address where you are staying now
- Social security number of one member of the household
- Basic list of damage and losses
- Bank information if you choose direct deposit for any FEMA money you may be awarded
- Insurance information if you have insurance, including the policy number
