Sweets and meats? Two metro-east businesses work together while one undergoes remodel
The Cup - Edwardsville remains open during its remodel, which began little more than a month ago.
The bakery currently operates with shorter hours and a smaller menu and produces its tasty baked goods at other sites that include The Cup - Central West End, The Cakery Bakery and Bagley Farm Meat Market, according to a press release.
It seems like an odd place for a bakery to be, but Bagley Farm Meat Market, located at 1208 S. State Highway 157 in Edwardsville, has its own small bakery department, stated the release.
The meat market’s owner, Andrew Bagley, offered this space to The Cup for the summer, allowing it to keep up production of cupcakes.
“We originally thought that we were going to have to bake over 500 cupcakes in St. Louis every evening and deliver them to Edwardsville every night, so Andrew’s offer to allow us to bake 2/10ths of a mile down the street was truly a Godsend,” The Cup owner and founder Ericka Frank stated in the release.
“The entire Bagley team has been extraordinarily gracious and helpful in this entire process. They have gone above and beyond in how accommodating they have been.”
In addition, the head baker of The Cup will also whip up cookies and cupcakes for Bagley’s bakery department.
“We are so excited to have The Cup baking in house this summer. They are fantastic people and everything they bake is delicious. We think this will be a great growing opportunity for both businesses,” stated Emily Bagley in the release.
The Cup frosts and decorates cupcakes in its temporary walk-in space next door to the original shop during the remodel.
About The Cup
The Cup was founded by Ericka Frank, who opened the first location in the Central West End in 2007.
Frank opened the second location in Edwardsville at 1057 Century Drive in 2009.
Hours at the Edwardsville shop are currently noon to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Online ordering is available.
