Man who was shot multiple times, set afire is from Belleville, St. Clair County coroner says
Authorities have identified the man who died after he was shot multiple times then set on fire in Cahokia Heights on Thursday.
The victim is Miljavon L. Sawyer, 23, of the 900 block of Peony Drive, Belleville, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.
He was pronounced dead at 5:27 p.m. at the scene on Pocket Road, Dye said.
His identity had been unknown until this weekend.
The crime happened in the 5800 block of Pocket Road, according to a release from the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.
The Major Case Squad was activated at the request of the Cahokia Heights Police Department.
